Urgent Care Consultants
About Us - David Stern, MD, CPC
David Stern, MD, CPC, joined Physicians Immediate Care in 1995 as a staff physician, and subsequently became one of three partners in the business, which currently operates 19 successful centers in the Midwest. He completed training and designation as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) in 2001.
In 2002, Dr. Stern and his partners at Physicians Immediate Care needed software designed specifically for the urgent care environment. After a futile search to purchase a program to fit their needs, this became the catalyst for the services provided by Practice Velocity. Dr. Stern and his partners hired software engineers to write the code for the programs the doctors sought to make their urgent care centers more efficient and cost-productive.
Today, Dr. Stern serves as CEO of both NMN Consultants and Practice Velocity, LLC, which provides software solutions for over 800 urgent care clinics in 49 states, including computer tablet-based diagnostic record systems, specialized billing systems, practice management software and a patented record template system. With over 200 employees, Practice Velocity currently provides billing services to over 150 urgent care centers.
Dr. Stern graduated Magna Cum Laude from Houghton College, earning his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology and minor in writing. Upon graduation from Houghton College, he was accepted into the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he completed his medical degree. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Pennsylvania State University Hospital in Hershey, PA. After his residency at Pennsylvania State University Hospital, Dr. Stern was appointed as chief resident and a member of the faculty as an instructor of internal medicine.
Dr. Stern is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He has been listed three times in Castle-Connolly’s Best Physicians in America. He has received recognition with the Lifetime Membership Award from the Urgent Care Association of America and as “One of the 20 People to Know in 2011” from the Rockford Area Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Stern lectures at the UCAOA educational conferences and writes a monthly column on coding for the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine magazine.
